Mechanical Engineer

Location: London
Reporting to: Technical Director

Are you interested in furthering the environmental agenda in shipping?  At Anemoi we have designed modern mechanical sails, known as Rotor Sails, which are comprised of tall cylinders. These harness the renewable power of the wind to propel ships, significantly reducing fuel consumption and lowering harmful emissions entering our atmosphere.

We are now looking for a Mechanical Engineer with at least 2 years’ post-graduate engineering work experience to join our design engineering team

 

The job will include:

  • Contributing to the design of the technology, in terms of functionality, engineering efficiency and cost effectiveness, specifying agreed design improvements for development internally or with external experts as required.
  • Working with existing and new manufacturers for supply of the technology in line with designs and specifications, and to the quality and cost required by the company.
  • Organising, planning and supporting the commissioning and operation of the technology on ships.
  • Contributing to the development of operation and maintenance manuals for new marine equipment and support clients with maintenance requirements.
  • Contributing to the running of tests on the equipment, gathering performance data.
  • Handling and processing data for performance analysis of the technology to provide clear and meaningful insights for decision making on future development projects.

 

About you:

Following your degree, you are likely to have had experience covering:

  • Mechanical design, ideally of industrial machinery for harsh environments
  • Critically reviewing designs for functionality, manufacturability, reliability, maintainability and cost reduction
  • Excel, MatLab, AutoCAD and 3D modelling software
  • Using FEA software and interpreting results
  • Managing specialist multi-disciplinary engineering consultants and suppliers
  • Working with Classification Societies and applying their rules and regulations for designs would be advantageous
  • Commercial shipping industry would be advantageous
