About the Role

Headquartered in the UK, Anemoi Marine Technologies also have a legal entity operating in China. We have a new exciting opportunity for a Project Accountant to join our expanding finance team.  As a fully qualified accountant you will be reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner (SFBP). This role is responsible for accurate and timely accounting of the project portfolio, providing insightful views for the financial performance of the assigned global projects. Being a member of a fast-growing company with ever-changing requirements, you will be involved in a wide range of topics affecting the business and have the opportunities to contribute to the business and finance transformation of a startup business to the next phase of its development – commercialisation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

  • You will be gathering information and developing detailed P&L for each project; carrying out multi-purpose analysis from assessing project profitability to product costing; interpreting, explaining and helping to drive performance across assigned projects;
  • Establishing an effective working relationship with the Project Management team; applying monthly rolling forecasting approach to month-end closing and forecasting of project outturns every month;
  • Providing project cash inflow and outflow forecasting reflecting customer and supplier payment status;
  • Working in conjunction with the financial accountant, preparing month-end transactions for projects, i.e. journals, to reflect the delivery status of the projects; ensuring month-end reconciliation of project accounts to the financial system; managing project balance sheets for WIP, accruals, prepayment etc;
  • Preparing variance reports, risk and opportunities reports, margin movement and cashflow reports for the project team and the Board;
  • Supporting SFBP to further develop a project reporting system to reflect project time and cost delivery status, as well as suitable controlling measures; co-developing WBS and cost centre structure for projects in SAP;
  • Developing and applying a time tracking system for internal labour from both the UK and China business teams, cost reallocation methods for overheads to be recharged to projects;
  • Carrying out monthly inventory analysis and inventory valuation;
  • Reviewing capital asset performance and ensuring any capital allocation is upto date;
  • Supporting SFBP with system migration to SAP, product costing and cost management system development;
  • Identifying opportunities to standardise, streamline and improve processes and accuracy;
  • Involvement in a wide range of ad hoc requirements or projects.

This role is ideal for someone with a logical mind set looking to applying their project/cost accounting skillset in a growing business, by contributing to business processes and enhancing business intelligence. Building relationships across the business is crucial in order to influence decision making and change.


Education / Qualifications

  • Strong A levels – at least 3 “B” grades excluding General Studies
  • Degree Educated 2.1 class
  • Qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with first time exam passes


Knowledge and Experience

  • At least 2 years post qualification
  • Having experience in engineering, or manufacturing businesses;
  • Robust understanding of project accounting and/or cost accounting;
  • Highly numerical and having advanced Excel skills – being able to create various data models for accounting and finance purposes;
  • Fluent in using accounting and forecasting packages such as SAP by Design etc;
  • Ability to use IT to drive business performance and enhance management reporting;
  • Experience in a fast-paced global environment (preferred), with the ability to flex style to suit the size of Anemoi
